Energy Carrier

In the project, the final process step is methanol synthesis to provide a liquid energy carrier for local use as well as for long-distance transportation.

Methanol synthesis entails the conversion of synthesis gas at high pressure and temperature with catalysts, into methanol. This process releases reaction heat that can be reused in preceding process steps. Methanol, in addition to its transportability over long distances, offers the advantage of versatile applications. Besides serving as an energy carrier, methanol is a crucial basic chemical for the chemical industry, making a substantial contribution to defossilization in this sector.
