The development of suitable management and adaptation strategies for global change is currently hindered by the limited technological capability to predict states and material flows in terrestrial systems on relevant temporal and spatial scales. IBG-3 contributes to a better understanding and more reliable prediction of hydrological and biogeochemical processes in terrestrial systems. A central aspect of their work is the computer-aided simulation of terrestrial systems across a variety of spatial scales.
